Landscape and tradition
La Geria is the vineyard area par excellence of Lanzarote, although not the only one. It is located in the south-east of the island, between the municipalities of Yaiza and Tías.
Before the eighteenth-century eruptions, La Geria was one of the most fertile areas of the island, where cereal crops abounded. Today it is a protected landscape for its beauty and here, the effort of the peasants is rewarded by wines of recognized quality.
La Geria is characterized by alandscape made of vine crops that grow at the bottom of some holes, surrounded by semicircular stone walls that serve to protect the vines from the trade winds.
Discover La Geria on a circular hiking route through volcanic vineyards, where vines planted in black ash tell the story of a centuries-old winemaking tradition. Led by a local guide, you’ll walk along trails framed by dry stone walls, learning how vines survive in arid soil and under the trade winds.
Along the way, you’ll learn about native grape varieties, sustainable farming techniques, and visit Bodegas Rubicón to enjoy a local wine tasting surrounded by volcanic landscape.
Ideal for those looking for easy hiking in Lanzarote, enriched with history, scenery and flavour.
