Yaiza is a municipality located in the south of Lanzarote that owes its name to one of the indigenous princesses of the island. Located at the foot of the Los Ajaches Massif, the valleys around it served as a refuge for the population during the fearsome eruptions of Timanfaya.
The municipality of Yaiza is undoubtedly linked to the conquest of the island by the Norman soldiers. Here are remains of the old San Marcial del Rubicón, but also Femés, which was the seat of the first Canarian Diocese. The first towns of the modern era on the island were founded in the municipal territory of Yaiza: Femés, Uga and Yaiza itself.
The most arid and wild nature is the true protagonist of the entire municipality of Yaiza.
