Small town located in the heart of the Los Ajaches Massif, in the south of Lanzarote, and where the Atalaya de Femés is located, the second highest point in the south of the island and third in Lanzarote, with its 608m.
It was one of the first towns that were built after the Conquest of the island, considered the most important population settlement in the entire region. What was the first diocese of the Canary Islands, La Rubiscense, moved here in the middle of the 16th century. Until the first half of the 50s of the last century, Femés constituted an independent municipality, while currently it belongs to Yaiza.
